NORTEC 2024 gaining momentum as new start approaches

The Campus for SMEs offering a varied accompanying programme

NORTEC, the Trade Fair for Manufacturers, will be taking place once again from 23 to 26 January 2024 in Hamburg. “Planning is already well under way, with new registrations coming in on a daily basis,” reports Florian Schmitz, Head of Trade Fairs and Events at Messe Stuttgart. There are currently around 140 exhibitors registered to exhibit new products, solutions and services for the manufacturing sector in northern Germany, Scandinavia and the Benelux countries in Hall A1 of the Hamburg trade fair grounds. Exhibition highlights will feature machinery and equipment, tools and devices, and controls and measurement technology. Suppliers and contract manufacturers, along with specialists representing the entire value chain (design, calculation and simulation, control, IT, logistics, quality control and service), will be addressing decision-makers from all industrial sectors, the service sector, trade and commerce.

Presenting itself as the Campus for SMEs, NORTEC 2024 promises to deliver an impressive accompanying programme. “Messe Stuttgart and VDW, who have only recently taken the reins of NORTEC, are working closely with trusted partner institutions who already have plenty of experience when it comes to the requirements of the target markets to organise the individual programme highlights,” explains Dr. Markus Heering, Managing Director of the VDW (German Machine Tool Builders' Association) in Frankfurt am Main. “The NORTEC programme will focus on current topics within the industry, such as supply chains, skills shortages and manufacturing opportunities for special sectors, all of which will be presented in a variety of formats,” he continues. A few examples:

Accompanying programme focusing on hot industry topics

hansesupplier, a group of ten owner-managed contract manufacturers in northern Germany, will share a joint stand, along with their expertise from the world of modern metal processing. This includes lasing, eroding, turning and milling, bending, forming and welding, as well as plenty of other production techniques.

The joint stand for electronics manufacturing, which will feature talks from the electronics manufacturing forum (FED), currently has 13 exhibitors who will showcase the entire value chain for assembly manufacture, from PCB manufacture to components, soldering agents and coatings, machinery and manufacturing processes. This should be the first port of call for experts from the electronics industry, who will find exactly what they are looking for here.

The start-up area for young companies also promises to be a real treat. Up to ten companies will have the opportunity to secure their very own exhibition area (4 m²) at an attractive price and use this space over four days to gauge the response of customers from the target regions and establish new contacts.

In cooperation with the Bundesverband Materialwirtschaft, Einkauf und Logistik (German Association for Materials Management, Purchasing and Logistics), NORTEC will host the BME Purchasers’ Day on 24 January. Purchasers from the industry will have the chance to find out more about the latest procurement opportunities during talks, discussion rounds and in conversations with experts. These events will address the concerns of many companies wishing to monitor and further strengthen their supply chains. “Full speed ahead” is the motto when it comes to attracting new and skilled employees. In addition to the Nachwuchsstiftung Maschinenbau (Youth NORTEC Education and Development Foundation for Mechanical Engineering), the HAWKS Racing Team will also be represented at a special exhibition area. The Formula Student Team from the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences will be demonstrating innovative technologies and teaching methods using a single-seater racing car.

Presentations, workshops and discussions will be taking place every day on two stages, namely the Auditorium and the Speakers’ Corner, and will explore the latest production technology topics, such as sustainability, artificial intelligence, new talent and training, digitalisation, automation, women in production technology and much more. There will also be the North German Simulation Forum, a workshop from VDMA Nord, as well as the ForUM@NORTEC symposium from the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg on the theme of forming technology. Further partners include the Artificial Intelligence Center Hamburg (ARIC), the Mittelstand‑Digital Zentrum Hamburg (which provides nationwide support for small and medium-sized enterprises) and the European Enterprise Network. The programme for the individual stages will be published soon.

“With NORTEC 2024, we have taken charge of an exciting event that has already established itself as a key date in the calendar for industry in northern Germany,” concludes Florian Schmitz. Markus Heering adds: “The first changes will already become apparent in 2024. With the success of this event, we intend to lay the foundation for the best possible restart in 2026.”
